Student-led Europe Day Activities at SHS
This year’s Europe Day activities were 100% student organised with no senior ambassador involvement. The students decorated the school hall with European Union flags and flags of member states, they played a Eurovision sound track and gave students the opportunity to try European foods and have their faces painted with European flags. EU Celebration Day
Students created a cultural fayre. They designed 9 tables including a ‘politics in the EU’ table. Each table represented a country and students were responsible for sharing information about their heritage. Groups of students were invited down to learn more about the EU and role of the Ambassadors

Defending democracy assembly
On 15th May we presented an assembly on democracy – defending it and celebrating it. In it, we covered topics on the history of democracy, the threats to democracy, student led activism, Ukraine and the defence of democracy against Russian aggression, as well as a call to students to be active participants in democracy. Our junior ambassadors and members of the student leadership team created a PowerPoint and quiz all about Europe day. Students organised an information stand to promote Europe Day. They spoke to students from across the school and handed out badges to celebrate European integration and cooperation. 6th form students took part in a European flag quiz at lunchtime which saw some fierce competition.
