What Europe means to us in a single image

To celebrate a decade of the European Parliament Ambassador School programme, we are thrilled to launch a special competition for our incredible European Parliament Ambassador Schools (EPAS) Junior Ambassadors!

1. The organiser

The European Parliament invites EPAS students to tell their story of their connection with the EU and show us what it means to them in a picture!

2. Objective of the competition

The competition aims to encourage Junior Ambassadors to reflect on and creatively express what Europe and the European Union mean to them, through photography and a short explanatory caption.

3. Eligibility

  • The competition is open exclusively to Junior Ambassadors officially participating in the EPAS programme.
  • Participants must be enrolled in an EPAS school/college at the time of submission.

4. Theme

“What Europe means to us in a single image”

The photograph should visually represent the participants’ personal interpretation of Europe, European values, democracy, diversity, unity, citizenship, or the impact of the EU in everyday life.

5. Submission requirements

Photograph

  • The photograph must be original and taken by the participant.
  • Accepted formats: digital photography taken with a smartphone, digital camera, or analogue/film camera (digitised).
  • Minimum resolution: 200 DPI.
  • Minor post-processing (e.g. cropping, brightness, contrast) is allowed.
  • AI-generated or AI-assisted images are strictly not permitted.

6. How to participate

To participate, applicants must complete all of the following steps:

  1. Snap a picture!
  2. In a maximum of 500 characters (including spaces), write a short text explaining what Europe means to them. The text should be consistent with the picture.
  3. Upload the photograph and caption to their personal/school Instagram open profile.
  4. Tag @EpinUK (https://www.instagram.com/epinuk)
  5. Include the hashtag #10yearsEPAS.
  6. Ensure the post remains public until the end of the competition process.
  7. Optionally, send an e-mail with the link of the post to info@epas.org.uk.

Important: Incomplete submissions or submissions that do not comply with these conditions may be excluded.

7. Deadline

Submission deadline: 30 January 2026 (23:59 CET)
Late submissions will not be considered.

8. Selection process

  • Submissions will be assessed at national level by the respective EPLOs.
  • Selection will be based on:
    • Relevance to the theme
    • Creativity and originality
    • Visual quality
    • Coherence between image and caption

9. Prize

  • Each national winner (up to three students from the same school per country), together with one accompanying teacher (Senior Ambassador), will be invited to participate in a youth seminar in Brussels in mid-March 2026, organised by the European Parliament. Travel, accommodation, and programme costs will be covered by the European Parliament, in accordance with applicable rules.
  • The 28 winning photographs will be:
    • Professionally printed
    • Displayed in an exhibition at the European Parliament Info Hub

10. Copyright and usage rights

By participating in the competition, applicants accept to grant a royalty-free licence to the European Parliament to publish and/or exhibit their entries in any format and to be featured in footage. Such images may also be used to promote future events as well as for awareness-raising purposes for the work of the European Parliament and EPAS Programme activities

11. Data protection

Personal data will be processed in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2018/1725 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data by EU institutions.

In case the photos portray an image of the author or close-up images of other persons, such photos need to be accompanied by a signed image rights consent form (in case of minors signed by parents) which specifies the use and display of the photo by the European Parliament
