Junior ambassadors at Carmel College marked Holocaust Memorial Day with two meaningful events.

The first was a powerful talk from Ernie Hunter of NHEG, who shared the story of his German-Jewish mother and her courage in actively confronting Nazi oppression.
Our Year 12 students involved in the Lessons from Auschwitz project then prepared and led our Holocaust Memorial Day service, which was delivered to the wider college community by students and staff. Isabel Davies and Trudy Wagstaff drew on their experiences in Poland and on hearing directly from Holocaust survivors, to remind us why it is vital to remember the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. They highlighted how individual stories help us to bridge generations and connect with the people behind the statistics.

This sounds like a really powerful combination, having the child of a Holocaust survivor and students from your college leading the event. Expanding the impact of something like a visit to Auschwitz by having participants share their experience with the wider college community is great ambassadorial work.
