Digital surgery with Lord Newby
On Monday, 18th November, sixth formers from Queen Elizabeth’s School, Crediton, joined a digital chat with Lord Newby. Led by Junior Ambassadors, they tackled topics like the Middle East conflict, farm inheritance tax, and boosting GP numbers. They also shared survey results on Youth Mobility, sparking insightful discussions.

Debating competition
On November 20th, three Junior Ambassadors from Carmel College—Michel Hachem, Finley Crookes, and Alex Thompson—shone at a debating competition at Bolton School. Competing in the English Speaking Union’s Schools’ Mace, they tackled ‘Green Belt’ housing issues and won! Now, they’re excitedly heading to the second round.

French Quiz
This activity shows how a student with moderate learning difficulties, who usually attends a special school, can join the Ambassador Schools program. We learned French colors, and the student became a junior ambassador, creating a quiz to teach others. She made materials, quiz sheets, and certificates, involving school and hospital staff.

EPAS trip to Belgium – Brussels and Ypres
Four students in year 12 from Notting Hill and Ealing High School went to Belgium. We spent two nights in a youth hostel sharing rooms with students from schools across Europe. Promote Democratic engagement
We took 20 pupils to Parliament. The trip was over-subscribed with over 100 pupils who expressed interest. This was part of our Parliament Week/month celebrations in which all pupils receive age appropriate lessons on different aspects of democracy and government. Lesson on the EU for Ukrainian students
Today, a Senior Ambassador from Notting Hill and Ealing High School led a fun lesson on the EU for visiting Ukrainian students. They explored the EU’s formation, its impact on lives, and engaged in democracy activities. A quiz wrapped up the session. Junior Ambassadors missed out due to class schedules.

European Parliament educational session at NHEHS
We were super excited to have Asher from Europe House visit our school for a workshop on European institutions and democracy. Students got to simulate voting in the European Parliament, experiencing the legislative process firsthand. The session ended with a lively chat about the European Parliament’s role, sparking great insights and discussions!

NHEHS in Strasbourg for Euroscola
During October half-term, NHEHS students visited Strasbourg for the Euroscola programme at the European Parliament. As the UK’s sole representative, we shared our views on political issues with European peers. European InfoPoint
The students have successfully completed a board-based InfoPoint on the European Union (EU), presenting key facts and insights in a clear and engaging format. The board features concise information about the EU’s institutions, its founding principles, member countries, and the benefits of EU citizenship. Discussion session with students on the Grey Belt in England
On November 6th, 16 junior ambassadors from Carmel College joined a lively chat about the Labour government’s plan to build on the ‘Grey Belt’ to tackle housing issues. Home Economics Day of Food
The Home Economics department just threw an awesome Day of Food Culture, celebrating culinary diversity! Students dove into global cuisines with cooking demos, learning to whip up traditional dishes. They also enjoyed a food tasting fair, sampling worldwide flavors. Creative food culture posters added a fun, educational touch around the school.
