On Friday, 23 May, our S3 classes had the unique opportunity to host David Constantine, a distinguished designer, photographer, and co-founder of Motivation, an international NGO focused on wheelchair accessibility and mobility in low-income countries.
David, a wheelchair user himself following an accident in his youth, shared his extensive experience working to improve quality of life for people with mobility disabilities across countries such as Afghanistan, Zimbabwe, and others. His presentation offered students a valuable insight into inclusive design and the challenges faced by disabled communities worldwide.

As a highly respected figure in the field—recently addressing the UN General Assembly—David’s visit was both inspiring and educational. He emphasized the importance of design for disability within the broader themes of global citizenship, inclusion, and international development, which align closely with the values promoted by the EPAS programme.
The session provided a unique opportunity for students to engage directly with a leading expert and to understand how design can have a real-world impact on vulnerable populations. Staff members teaching related subjects were also invited to attend, fostering cross-curricular engagement.
Overall, this event greatly enriched our students’ understanding of European and global values such as inclusion, empathy, and social responsibility, which are fundamental to the EPAS mission.
EPAS Team Comment
What an inspiring and interesting talk this must have been. Excellent to see that you are thinking broadly about the concept of democracy: how we ensure equitable access (in every way) in our societies.
