Submission for #10yearsEPAS Photo Competition

For the #10yearsEPAS competition, we photographed the statue of Brittania, an iconic local monument close to our college & the personal symbol of Britain, alongside a set of Union Jack flags raised during the Raise the Flag protests which can be interpreted as an expression of patriotism or anti-immigration nationalism. We also captured a set of industrial buildings in the background, linking social identity with the area’s declining coastal industries. The photograph questions how Britain adapts to its changing relationship with Europe and role in the world, and the challenge for our generation to relate to our history.
