Carmel College’s Success in the Second Round of the ESU Schools’ Mace Competition
Carmel College rocked the ESU Schools’ Mace competition’s second round! Alex, Michel, and Fin wowed everyone with their top-notch debating skills, arguing against the copyrightability of musical works. Out of six teams, only two advanced, and Carmel’s stellar performance secured their spot in the regional final. Keep shining, team!

Clyst Vale visit to Strasbourg European Parliament (Sakharov Prize)
Our trip to the European Parliament in Strasbourg was a blast! Sitting in the hemicycle and meeting international students was a highlight. Hearing the Venezuelan Sakharov Prize winners’ stories was touching. We’re grateful to the organizers and hope for more chances like this, even post-Brexit. Can’t wait for future collaborations!

Christmas Around the World
Yr 9 Ambassadors helped run this event for Yr7 (all of yr7). It promotes how Christmas is celebrated around the world – mostly Europe. The yr7s produce posters in a team on a country and how they celebrate Christmas and present to class. The Ambassadors help the staff and students with this. Then they listen

Carmel Cultural Appreciation Day
Carmel College’s junior ambassadors rocked Cultural Appreciation Day! Students explored global cultures with music, dance, tasty foods, and fun quizzes. Prestwick Academy infopoint
We had a fantastic training session for our Junior Ambassadors during our lunchtime club, using my online training presentation on EP. Lauchlan McLean, one of our Junior Ambassadors, created an awesome post-training presentation. It’s proudly displayed in the Modern Language corridor and on big screens around the school. Great job!

Strangford Integrated College Infopoint
Students set up a European Union Infopoint featuring upcoming events and a list of Junior Ambassadors. We made great use of the ‘goodies’ from the European Parliament. Check out the photos to see the excitement and creativity in action! Dive in to learn more about this fantastic initiative.

Writing Competition
We started by developing a strategy for advertising and organising the writing competition, categorising and judging entries. We elaborated four categories, prose, poetry, argumentative and analytic writing and rating criteria for each category, such as persuasion, originality or analytic quality. The Senior Ambassadors appointed three Junior Ambassadors, who volunteered for it, to organise and set up the Info Point on the 5th of December 2024. Digital surgery with Lord Newby
On Monday, 18th November, sixth formers from Queen Elizabeth’s School, Crediton, joined a digital chat with Lord Newby. Led by Junior Ambassadors, they tackled topics like the Middle East conflict, farm inheritance tax, and boosting GP numbers. They also shared survey results on Youth Mobility, sparking insightful discussions.

Debating competition
On November 20th, three Junior Ambassadors from Carmel College—Michel Hachem, Finley Crookes, and Alex Thompson—shone at a debating competition at Bolton School. Competing in the English Speaking Union’s Schools’ Mace, they tackled ‘Green Belt’ housing issues and won! Now, they’re excitedly heading to the second round.
