Languages at Work Event – GCHQ and Business Language Champions
Twelve Year 10 students learning French and German took part in the GCHQ challenge at the Royal School in Bath. They got to see languages in action and even enjoyed a taste of Arabic, Korean, and Mandarin. What an exciting opportunity to explore new languages and cultures!

Trip to World Food Buffet
Oaklea Grange organized a fun trip to a World Food Buffet to explore different cultures’ cuisines. We tasted sushi, Indian, tapas, pasta, Welsh cakes, Chinese, and pizza. Our top pick was Italian! It was fascinating to see how cultures enjoy small bites and use chopsticks. We left feeling happily stuffed!

European infopoint
Junior Ambassadors from Manchester Hospital School teamed up to create an infopoint for our Preparation for Adulthood curriculum. They brainstormed what to include, chose the perfect spot, and collaborated to develop the resources. Their teamwork and creativity are truly inspiring, and there’s so much more to discover about their journey!

International Mother Language Day
At Oaklea Grange, we celebrated International Mother Language Day with a school assembly. We explored endangered languages and ways to preserve them. We discussed unique communication methods and the importance of keeping traditions alive. We watched videos on click languages, yodelling, and Welsh speakers in Patagonia. We even spoke Welsh and enjoyed language-themed activities!

Infopoint
Students from Notting Hill and Ealing High School’s EPAS club successfully secured a noticeboard after negotiating with the SLT and departments. They filled it with EU info, placing it in a busy school corridor. It’s getting lots of attention, showcasing their hard work and dedication. Check it out!

Cultural Fair
Fantastic learning for democratic engagement! It’s awesome for students to chat with politicians, discover their motivations, and ask about issues that matter to them. The Ambassador Schools club set up a stall to share EU info and engage with students. Some club members even shared their culture at their own table.

Screening of 20,000 Species of Bees for the LUX Audience Award
The Junior Ambassadors at Oaklea Grange voted on films and chose between *20,000 Species of Bees* and *On the Adamant*, focusing on mental health themes. We watched *20,000 Species of Bees*, created a mind map, and discussed characters and themes. We also debated the impact of subtitles and rated the film online.

Pen pal exchange with pupils from a Spanish school
Year 11 students at Hele’s School, taking Spanish as an extra GCSE, exchanged pen pal letters with a Spanish school. This connection was made through a Spanish staff member. Writing letters offers a unique cultural exchange, encouraging thoughtful communication and helping students express themselves clearly and confidently.

International Mother Languages Day Celebration
Students at Mercy College, Belfast, had a blast on International Mother Languages Day! They kicked off with a fun “Guess the Language” quiz, enjoyed an international lunch, and got creative with crafts. The main corridor featured a display of language facts. Check out their activities on Facebook!

Visiting the Couven Gymnasium in Aachen, a Europa Schule
Year 9 German students from Channing School were thrilled to meet their penpals at Couven Gymnasium in Aachen. They teamed up on cultural topics, from music to food, and gave presentations. Couven students spoke in English, while Channing students presented in German. It was an amazing cultural exchange experience!

Hike to Dreilaendereck – the place where three European countries meet
Our Year 9 German learners had an awesome time hiking to Dreilaendereck on a sunny February day. They were thrilled when their phones switched countries with just a few steps! Reaching the spot where Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany meet was a highlight they absolutely loved.

Lux Film Event & Christmas film screening
We hosted two awesome film screenings! In December, 15 Year 7 students enjoyed the French version of “Ratatouille.” Later, 10 Junior Ambassadors attended the Lux Film Screening of “20,000 Species of Bees.” Both events were a hit, and everyone had a fantastic time. International Mother Tongue Day
EPAS Junior Ambassadors at Devonport High School for Girls made a cool video where students spoke in their European mother tongues. Stroud High School’s Junior Ambassadors got a fun chance to test their language skills and tackle the challenge of mapping Europe’s countries. Cultural Fortnight at Clyst Vale
Students at Clyst Vale Community College, a UNICEF Gold Rights Respecting School, are embracing respect and diversity during Cultural Fortnight. They’re exploring the 9 protected characteristics from the 2010 Equality Act, linked to trailblazers and UNCRC articles. Activities include assemblies, themed lessons, and global cuisine. Our awesome Ambassador Schools team hosted a fun quiz on Europe, covering flags, traditions, history, and more. We also explored European art, highlighting key artists and letting students recreate their favorite pieces. Hele’s School’s Junior Ambassadors whipped up a fun 30-minute quiz for tutees to tackle in teams, exploring Christmas traditions across Europe. Dive into the festive spirit and discover how different countries celebrate this magical season. It’s a great way to learn and have a blast together!

Christmas cards for refugees
Cecylia, one of Hele’s School’s Junior Ambassadors, started a heartwarming project in tutor groups. Students wrote thoughtful messages to refugees and asylum seekers, letting them know they’re in our thoughts. These messages were then sent to the Devon and Cornwall Refugee Centre. It’s a beautiful way to show kindness and support!
