Holocaust Memorial

Holocaust Memorial Day is an opportunity to pause, to remember the millions of people who suffered in the Holocaust under Nazi Persecution, and in genocides which followed and to ensure that these atrocities are never forgotten, trivialised, or denied.

Ian Austin, Lord Austin of Dudley, and Dudley College Students’ Union organise Dudley borough’s annual HMD commemoration, which is attended by VIPs, faith leaders, members of the community, and college and school students from across the Dudley borough.

The service follows the HMD annual themes where we consider the crucial role of the next generation in preserving the memory of the Holocaust and carrying it forward – A reminder that the responsibility of remembrance doesn’t end with the survivors.

With the support of Lord Austin and the Holocaust Educational Trust, over many years we have had the great honour of being joined by Holocaust survivors, who have been the special guest speaker at the service – It is humbling they have the courage to share their testimonies. We also hear recounts from students who have taken part in the Holocaust Educational Trust ‘Lessons from Auschwitz’ project.

We remember and continue the campaign against injustice, hatred and discrimination which has always been central to the role of Students’ Unions and Trade Unions.
