Europe Day Assemblies

In the week leading up to Europe Day our assemblies focused on Europe. In our secondary assemblies, we adapted the EPAS resources from a couple of years ago to focus on the importance of democracy, linking it to the shared values between the UK and the EU, and the local elections that were taking place in the UK the following day.

In our primary assemblies, we talked about fairytales and how many of the stories we know originally came to the UK via France (through Perrault’s works) and Germany (through the Grimm Brothers’ collection). We heard versions of two stories that were closer to the original and compared them to the stories we know, then discussed the origins of other fairy tales.

What an interesting and creative way to celebrate Europe Day with your younger students! Also fantastic to link in with the local elections going on: connecting students to the democratic structures around them.
