    Hosting the Ambassador Schools Certification Ceremony

    On December 5th, Instituto Español Vicente Cañada Blanch (IEVCB) proudly hosted the European Parliament Ambassador Schools certification ceremony. They welcomed other Ambassador Schools and guest of honor MEP Thijs Reuten, who inspired students with insights on European democracy. Two Junior Ambassadors led the event, featuring speeches and a special piano rendition of “Ode to Joy.”

    Education and Debate about the Northern Ireland Protocol

    Mercy College’s Government and Politics class dove into Brexit and the Northern Ireland Protocol, sparking a lively debate: “This house believes Northern Ireland should have ‘special status’ in the EU.” Students split into teams, crafting two-minute opening statements. Being in Belfast, these debates highlight the importance of engaging with democratic processes.

    Luke Pollard, the Labour MP for Hele’s School, visited to chat with Junior Ambassadors and students about democracy. They covered topics like voting, demographics, ID cards, and more. He also shared his views on Labour’s stance, the cost of living crisis, and the Israel/Gaza conflict. Everyone loved it!

    Launch session and debate: “What should the priorities be for the EU and UK’s future relationship?”

    Clyst Vale Community College was thrilled to host Asher Jacobsberg from the European Parliament Liaison Office on December 13th. He launched the European Parliament Ambassador Schools project and led a lively debate on EU-UK priorities. Students from Years 11-13 engaged enthusiastically, learning about the European Parliament’s workings. Exciting times ahead!

    Christmas cards for refugees

    Cecylia, one of Hele’s School’s Junior Ambassadors, started a heartwarming project in tutor groups. Students wrote thoughtful messages to refugees and asylum seekers, letting them know they’re in our thoughts. These messages were then sent to the Devon and Cornwall Refugee Centre. It’s a beautiful way to show kindness and support!
