ESOL Homeless Campaign

ESOL learners at Dudley College launched a Youth Social Action project to tackle homelessness in their local community. The initiative aimed to help students develop confidence, integrate into society, and make a positive impact through meaningful community work.

The students organised a “Keeping Power to Account” event, where they invited their local MP to discuss issues around homelessness. Many learners spoke publicly for the first time, asking thoughtful questions and gaining confidence in using their voices for change.

They also ran a successful donation campaign, collecting over 110kg of food and non-food items and raising more than £200 to create care packages for homeless people. Their efforts were recognised by a local food bank, which awarded them a certificate of appreciation.

The project has helped students grow personally and become more involved in college and community activities. Learners are now planning further work with a local soup kitchen to continue supporting people in need. Overall, the initiative has shown the power of youth action, teamwork, and community spirit.
