One of our Junior Ambassadors wrote an article on Holocaust Memorial Day, focusing on the EU’s response to the Holocaust and other genocides. Carmel College at Euroscola
On January 27th, 20 Carmel students headed to Strasbourg for the Euroscola event at the European Parliament. We got to play the role of MEPs, diving into the legislative process. The trip also included a debate on zero pollution, a visit to Strasbourg Cathedral, and a quick Paris adventure!

Debating Programme
Myself and the politics teacher have worked with students over the academic year on a programme of debating. This began small scale, with teams of three students competing in small heats in front of 2 members of staff on the subject of sustainability. The winners of these heats went on to compete against each other

Carmel College’s Success in the Second Round of the ESU Schools’ Mace Competition
Carmel College rocked the ESU Schools’ Mace competition’s second round! Alex, Michel, and Fin wowed everyone with their top-notch debating skills, arguing against the copyrightability of musical works. Out of six teams, only two advanced, and Carmel’s stellar performance secured their spot in the regional final. Keep shining, team!

Christmas Around the World
Yr 9 Ambassadors helped run this event for Yr7 (all of yr7). It promotes how Christmas is celebrated around the world – mostly Europe. The yr7s produce posters in a team on a country and how they celebrate Christmas and present to class. The Ambassadors help the staff and students with this. Then they listen

Carmel Cultural Appreciation Day
Carmel College’s junior ambassadors rocked Cultural Appreciation Day! Students explored global cultures with music, dance, tasty foods, and fun quizzes. Debating Trip to Stormont
A trip to Stormont gives Strangford Integrated College students a cool peek into Northern Ireland’s politics and human rights. They’ll explore the Assembly Chamber, join a mock debate, and chat with an MLA. Plus, there’s a human rights workshop on equality and free speech. It’s all about understanding democracy and human rights!

Writing Competition
We started by developing a strategy for advertising and organising the writing competition, categorising and judging entries. We elaborated four categories, prose, poetry, argumentative and analytic writing and rating criteria for each category, such as persuasion, originality or analytic quality. The Senior Ambassadors appointed three Junior Ambassadors, who volunteered for it, to organise and set up the Info Point on the 5th of December 2024.
