Promote Democratic engagement

We took 20 pupils to Parliament. The trip was over-subscribed with over 100 pupils who expressed interest.

This was part of our Parliament Week/month celebrations in which all pupils receive age appropriate lessons on different aspects of democracy and government. Pupils in Y7 all take part in a Digital Surgery with the Politics Project and interview either a local councillor or our MP Jeff Smith.

We booked the trip to Parliament through the Educational Centre which meant the pupils received a workshop on passing laws.

Great stuff. A really important part of participating in a democracy is understanding how its decision-making structures work. Does the group who got to go have any way to share their learning with the wider school community?
