Northern Counties School Attending Europe Day in London

We applied to attend Europe Day at Europe House with 10 of our young people with complex SEND. This group included our Head Boy/Head Girl who we elect each year through a democratic process.

We took part in the Q&A session and Ruby asked the speakers, “What does the UK rejoining Erasmus+ mean for pupils with complex SEND?”

All pupils then ‘visited Europe within one day’, filling in their cultural passports and visiting each country represented in the hall.

Pupils were able to learn more information about the European Parliament, mix with other schools from across the UK, talk to exhibitors from Europe and it also allowed SEND pupils to be represented at the event. Attending the event was also great for demonstrating that politics is for everyone and developing our pupils’ aspirations.

Pupils then came back to school and told their classmates across Upper School what they had learnt. We are subsequently holding a whole school event on Friday connected to their learning in London. On a wider scale, pupils have also been able to discuss European issues with their wider families.

EPAS Team Comment

It was fantastic to have you join us at Europe House, thanks for travelling all the way from Newcastle! We are very glad that you got so much out of it, and asked such an insightful question of our speakers.

Your students are clearly being excellent Ambassadors taking their learning back to their school and families.
