Poster Campaign for Youth Turnout at 2026 Local Elections

Our ambassador group identified voter turnout among their generation as a problem for getting young people’s voices heard in Politics. Realising that lots of their peers at college would be turning 18 in time for local elections, they met as a group to plan a poster campaign to raise awareness of registering to vote.

The group took the lead on discussing goals, poster design and where to place around college. They first decided to improve their own understanding of what local government does, requiring democratic learning of the UK’s council system, then researched previous examples of good voter registration styles, and created their own design which they wanted to stand out as designed by young people for young people, without feeling too ‘corporate’.

The group did all the planning, design and putting up posters around college themselves and organised as a team into roles to achieve this. Students commented that it was good to feel actively involved in addressing a political problem that lots of people just moan about, and noted for the future that more work needs to be done to explain to young people how their vote actually made a difference.

EPAS Team Comment

Fantastic. A great project for Junior Ambassadors to be involved with. Great to see people encouraging their peers to get engaged with local democracy.
