To celebrate Europe Day on 9 May, EPAS Junior Ambassadors organised a school-wide event to promote European values, cultural diversity and active citizenship. Students delivered an interactive presentation to their peers, explaining the importance of Europe Day and discussing opportunities available to young people through European programmes and initiatives.

In addition, students created a short video titled “How does the EU benefit me”, aimed at explaining the advantages of being part of the European Union in a clear and engaging way. They also shared useful resources with the school community, including information about programmes such as Erasmus+ and the EU Citizenship app, helping students to discover opportunities available across Europe.
A key part of the celebration was a photography competition and exhibition inspired by our recent trip to Brussels. Students were invited to respond to the question “What does Europe mean to you?” by submitting a photograph that represented their personal connection to Europe. More than 90 entries were received, reflecting a wide range of perspectives linked to culture, heritage, languages, travel, identity and shared European values.
The photographs were displayed in an exhibition open to the school community, encouraging discussion and reflection on the different ways Europe influences our daily lives. Winners and runners-up were recognised during an awards ceremony and received EU-themed prizes.
The participation from students and staff was fantastic, and this year’s Europe Day celebration was a great success across the whole school.
Through this activity, students developed their creativity, communication and critical thinking skills while gaining a deeper appreciation of Europe’s cultural diversity. The event highlighted how European identity can be expressed in many different ways and reinforced the values of respect, inclusion and cooperation that underpin the European project.
